Spring is in the air, and that means fun and interesting things to do in Portsmouth. This weekend sees Crafts in the Tower return to The Square Tower, Old Portsmouth, held on the third Sunday of every month between March and December at the favourite Hot Walls venue.

Crafts in the Tower is a unique showcase of local creative talent that for this one day a month augments the already impressive array of artists' workshops and studios at the Arches, Old Portsmouth.

Makers of every stripe can be found in the tower, producing work as diverse as Gilded City's local scenes on burnished metal, Diana Wren's quirky signature ceramics and Sue Meredith's lively local prints in her own unique style. Jewellery maker and Crafts in the Tower founder member Katherine Webber will also be showing off her elegant works in semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals, in beautifully finished and highly detailed metalwork, while the written word will be represented by publisher Life Is Amazing's Matt Wingett, who specialises in producing local histories, reprinting Portsmouth-related classics and publishing new fiction by local writers. Cecelia Windebank's excellent patchwork creations bring a touch of class to any room, and Rachel Bailey's fine and delicate jewellery will also be on show, among many other
makers and creators.

In total, there will be 14 unique stalls at Crafts in the Tower on Sunday, and you'll also have the chance to enjoy tea and cakes, while kids even get to enjoy hands-on craft-skills with Kendal James, whose Hama bead pixel pieces always prove popular with budding creators.

The pop-up craft fair is run on a non-profit basis by organiser Kelly Jane Hickman and other members of the CitT team, giving makers the chance to get their wares in front of the public at an affordable price.

Kelly says: "It's great fun. We've got a really good mix of amazingly creative makers in the Tower, so why not come out for a walk by the sea, and pop in and see us?"

Crafts in the Tower will be open from 11am till 4pm on Sunday 15th of April at The Square Tower, Broad Street, Old Portsmouth, PO1 2ND.

Everybody's welcome to come by and snaffle a unique, locally-made bargain.
