Dog Friendly and Beautiful Views - Salt Cafe, Portchester

Walking my dog along Portchester Shore is always enjoyable but stopping off at Salt Cafe is an added bonus.
Located in a boatyard, the cafe is accessible from Cranleigh Road but we always enter from the shore as our walk passes it.
As well as the delightful interior, there is an outside seating area and a jetty. As I'm always with my dog, we sit outside with stunning views which, today in this beautiful summer bank holiday weather, included kayakers and paddle boarders. We're normally in good company with plenty of other dogs enjoying the sunshine and occasional treat if they're lucky. There's always a big bowl of water for our thirsty furry friends too.
I've been here for coffee and cake a few times now and more recently breakfast. I've yet to try a lunch time meal but have to say that what I see coming out of the kitchen for other diners looks very appetising.
Brunch is served from 9am until 2pm and there is a variety to choose from the menu which includes sourdough toast and preserves, granola, streaky bacon and egg sandwich, sausage sandwich or, for the more adventurous, smoked salmon on toast and fresh crab and watercress sandwich. There are also vegan options which includes crushed avocado and tomatoes on sourdough toast.
You do need to queue up to place your order and often it's busy but the hardworking staff always have a smile on their face and the queue goes down quickly.
A range of items are available from the counter include criossants, sausage rolls, cakes and tray bakes and other pastries.
Prices are slightly at the higher end, I'd say, with a grilled breakfast costing £8.90 and coffee £2.40 but the view and setting makes it so worth it.
Salt Cafe is situated at Cranleigh Road, Portchester, PO16 9DR. It is open from 9am until 4pm Monday till Friday and from 9am until 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
