Groundlings Present Little Shop of Horrors

Published: 12th October 2017 10:27

Lee Backhouse and Nathalie GunnGroundlings' very own drama school will be performing Little Shop of Horrors this October half-term.

It stars Lee Backhouse who will be playing Aladdin in this year’s Groundlings Pantomime.

Lee Backhouse is a local actor who has appeared in many shows at Groundlings over the years, as a variety of different characters. He has appeared in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as ensemble characters such as Cuddles the Cat and some of the dwarfs. He also had the much sought-after role of the front half of Daisy the Cow in Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as the Giant in the same production. Lee is playing Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, and is excited to play the role of Aladdin at the end of a year that has seen his career go from strength to strength!

Our Creative Director and Principal of Groundlings Drama School, Richard Stride, will be voicing Audrey Two, bringing his own unique and accessible comedy to the role of the horrible plant! Richard trained at the Academy of Live and Performing Arts in London.  He has appeared in Star Wars Episodes 2 & 3, Wind in The Willows, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, First Knight, Gladiator, Lost, Bright Young Things, and Shakespeare in Love.  Bringing his love of the theatre and acting to our local community, Richard created Groundlings Drama School to allow local children and young people an opportunity to tread the boards.

“We have actors from all backgrounds and ages, and we celebrate that diversity here at Groundlings,” Richard Stride said, “and a production such as this really showcases the talent we have right here in the city.”

Nathalie Gunn is Audrey. Nathalie came to Portsmouth to go to university, and never left. She is the lead singer in a local rock band, ‘The Spoils’, who are growing a large following after headlining Portsmouth Pride this year.  Nathalie works with New Apollo Theatre Company, and will be going straight from Little Shop of Horrors into House of Fog. Working with Black Hat Theatre Company, specialising in Children’s Theatre, Nathalie is known as The ‘Red Queen’ from Alice in Wonderland, bringing a smile to faces young and old.
