Over the weekend, two Romsey girls from LMC Taekwondo club, Southampton travelled to Nottingham to take part in the National Taekwondo Club Competition. The event - held over two days - saw 400 athletes from clubs all over the UK participate.
Saturday saw 10 year old Wellow School pupil - Eloise Grant - take the gold medal in the extremely tough child A class, -32kg category. Eloise fought hard all day and was victorious over girls a year older than herself.
On Sunday 12 year old Lily Hoy from Mountbatten School, fought in the Cadet A class -41kg group. Lily's first fight saw her put in an impressive performance against an experienced competitor and move into the final where she took a well earned silver.
11 year old Loretta Heath from the New Forest, also fought on the Saturday in child A class -36kg and missed out in the final to a golden point decision and won a well deserved Silver medal.
Their coach Max Cater also took part in the competition and won gold in the senior A class -58kg group, after beating his final opponent by a point gap.
Coach Max Cater said "I'm incredibly proud of the girls. They showed real tenacity and all their hard work paid off. We're an up and coming club with big aspirations, to bring home 4 medals from 4 athletes is great. Plus it was nice to get back in the ring myself!"
Max Cater is a decorated former Great Britain Taekwondo athlete who was forced to retire in 2018. Cater decided to pass on his enthusiasm and experience in the sport and set up LMC Taekwondo. LMC trains on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in Southampton, for more information please contact Max Cater on 07565619304.
