Earlier this year, five parks in North Hertfordshire were awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award and now they are all in the running to be crowned the People's Choice.
The five parks awarded Green Flag status in July were:
- Ivel Springs, Baldock
- Howard Park and Gardens, Letchworth
- Norton Common, Letchworth,
- Oughtonhead Common, Hitchin
- Priory Memorial Gardens, Royston
All five sites are among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces which received this prestigious Award. The Awards Scheme recognises the best parks and open spaces in the UK for having excellent facilities, being well managed and maintained and for engaging the local community. The scheme is now asking the public to vote for their favourites.
You can find your nearest award-winning parks at www.greenflagaward.org. To vote for your favourite, simply find it on the map and click the vote button. Once you've voted, why not encourage others to get involved too!
Voting closes on 30 September, with the top 10 winning sites being announced on 11 October.
Cllr Michael Weeks, NHDC's Executive Member for Environment said: "We are very proud to have retained Green Flag status at five of our parks this year and it would be a fitting testimony to the excellent work of our staff, contractors and volunteers, if we could also pick up a People's Choice Award nationally.
So please get on line, be proud of our lovely parks and vote for a North Hertfordshire park today!"
Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award manager said, "Following the huge success of #LoveParks Week, the People's Choice Award is another chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now."
