Unicorn Ceilidhs proudly present The Valiant Dance Band with caller Aidan Hansell at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock on Friday 9th March.
The Valiant Dance Band continues the tradition of distinctive English Ceilidh bands from the Eastern Counties, and comprises melodeon, concertina, fiddle, cello and banjo. Wonderful tunes and an infectious rhythm make them irresistible to dance to and hugely enjoyable for listening as well!
Aidan Hansell is one of the top callers on the English Ceilidh scene, who calls some great dances clearly and succinctly without losing the element of fun that makes ceilidh dancing so enjoyable.
Interval entertainment will be from local favourites, Baldock Midnight Morris, whose repertoire includes the modern “Raglan” tradition as well as stick and handkerchief dances from established dance traditions, and some dances of their own.
Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £10, Seniors over 65 - £9, Children under 18 - £6, Students / unwaged - £7. First 6 students before 8 p.m. - FREE! Excellent value for a live band and caller! There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.
All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. See www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for full details.
