Irresistible for dancing!

Author: Unicorn Ceilidhs Published: 25th November 2019 12:35

Chalktown

Locally-based Chalktown are the featured band at the Unicorn Ceilidh on Friday 13th December at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock.  Chalktown are an innovative dance band, with English folk meeting indie rock with a twist of modern jazz, producing music that is great for listening and irresistible for dancing. The band has a wealth of dance music experience with three ex-members of the legendary Gas Mark 5, and has been described in fRoots magazine as “Good for the feet”!

Calling the dances will be Jane Bird, on her second visit to Unicorn Ceilidhs.  Jane is a rising star amongst ceilidh callers, with a fantastic repertoire of great dances, an inclusive approach and a really friendly manner.

This month there will be interval entertainment from Hertfordshire Holly.  Celebrating forty years of dancing in 2019, the side dances in the “North-West” style, performing mostly traditional dances, with one or two composed by members of the side.

Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock SG7 5AE, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £11, Seniors over 65 - £10, Children under 18 - £6, Students / unwaged - £8. First 6 students before 8 p.m. - FREE! Excellent value for a live band and caller!  There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.

All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect.
