Valentine's Day Ceilidh

Author: Unicorn Ceilidhs Published: 17th January 2020 15:28

Bristol Ceilidh Quartet

The next Unicorn Ceilidh at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock, will be on Friday 14th February (Valentine’s Day), featuring the Bristol Ceilidh Quartet and caller Jethro Anderson.

The Bristol Ceilidh Quartet is a funky, folky ceilidh band based in Bristol, with a string quartet lineup and a big sound!  The band brings together three experienced English folk fiddlers and a fab cellist to make a unique sound with loads of energy and drive. The band take great tunes and create exciting arrangements exploring the dynamic range of the string quartet. This isn’t serious classical music though, all the musicians have spent many years playing for traditional dance; every tune is calculated to get feet tapping and people on the dance floor.

Calling the dances will be Jethro Anderson, also from Bristol, who is a very experienced caller and musician.  His repertoire of dances will have everyone on their feet and dancing all evening through!

Interval entertainment this month will be from Tappalachian, a Herts-based dance group specializing in the dynamic step dancing of the Appalachian Mountain region of the USA.

Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock SG7 5AE, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £11, concessions, children’s and family tickets available (see website for details).  There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a special Valentine’s Day raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.

All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect.
