As thousands of F1™ fans prepare for the road trip to this weekend’s British Grand Prix, Esso went behind the scenes at technology partner Aston Martin Red Bull Racing to offer the insiders’ guide for any fans travelling to Silverstone.

In a series of interviews with various personnel around the factory from Team Principal Christian Horner, to mechanics, manufacturing staff and engineers, Esso has used its long and successful heritage in motorsports to compile some survival top tips (below).

Christian Horner recommends: “Take sun cream and a cagoule. As it is an old airfield you are exposed to the elements – it can either be baking hot or wet and soggy!”

Whilst Caroline Tierney urges fans to “wear good sturdy shoes and walk round the circuit to get the best views of the cars.”

Neil Ambrose adds: “Avoid the motorway. Instead I would suggest you make your way through Brackley or via Buckingham taking the back roads.”

As well as being a tough race for the fans, the Silverstone circuit is challenging for the Esso Synergy race fuels team as they work trackside to deliver power and performance for Aston Martin Red Bull Racing.

“Silverstone is a high-speed circuit that demands full throttle for more than half of the lap and is known for being high on fuel consumption.” said David Tsurusaki ExxonMobil’s Global Technical Motorsport Manager. “Our Esso Synergy race fuels team works closely with our partner Aston Martin Red Bull Racing to help make a difference to performance on track. It’s a big challenge from a technical perspective, but also an iconic race and a real highlight on the F1 calendar. We hope our tips help all those committed British fans making the trip to get the most out of their British GP experience.”

Top tips for attending the British Grand Prix this year are:

  1. “Be prepared for the British weather and take sun cream and a cagoule” Christian Horner, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Team Principal
  2.  Wear good sturdy shoes and make sure you walk all round the track to get the best views of the cars” Caroline Tierney, Project Manager, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing
  3.  “Watch the cars at Maggots and Becketts – the action at these sections is extraordinary and this year will be no different” Jonathon Wheatley, Team Manager, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing
  4.  Get there on the Thursday. There’s a feature-packed programme with a lot of activity happening behind-the-scenes. This is definitely a race on the calendar where it is worthwhile arriving early” Thomas Guest, Marketing, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing

Those fans making the journey via car can stop off at the Esso service stations local to Silverstone on the Buckingham Ring Road or at Baynards Green for any last minute supplies or fuel ahead of the race weekend.
