VE Day re-enactors at Royal Gunpowder Mills

A spectacle not to be missed!

Visitors to the Royal Gunpowder Mills, Beaulieu Drive, Waltham Abbey, Essex, EN9 1JY will be transported back to the 1940s to join the VE Celebrations as part of a spectacular May Bank Holiday weekend event on Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May 2018 from 10am-5pm.

Immerse yourself in a weekend of re-enactments, remembrance and celebration at the popular annual Second World War event - Victory in Europe, with historical 1940's living history re-enactors, family activities, theatre show and much more.

Over 300 re-enactors from all over the world assemble in a show area of tents, jeeps, barracks and field kitchens for one of the last battles of the European theatre March 1945.  Visitors can tour the field finding out from soldiers what life was like on the front line and on Sunday and Monday part of the battle is re-enacted.  In another part of the site it is May 1945, war in Europe is over, and civilians are helping visitors to join in the celebrations!

ALL DAYS – The 1940’s Street Party will be here to entertain visitors all throughout the weekend. Join us out on the street for singing, dancing and jiving all throughout the weekend.   Then pop along to see “Spam, Sandwiches & Bunting” an interactive show staged in our Theatre.

ACTIVITIES for KIDS too – Science shows, crafts, water rockets and more!

BANK HOLIDAY SATURDAY –Everything going on except for the battle re-enactment.  A day with more space to get in-depth conversations with re-enactors and enjoy the entertainments.

BANK HOLIDAY SUNDAY & MONDAY (3PM) – On both days at 3pm our re-enactors bring one of the last WW2 land battles to life.  Witness the opposing sides using their training and tactics in ‘Operation Varsity’.

Doors open 10am and last entry is 3pm.  Allow around 4 – 5 hours to get around our fantastic site and to view everything we have on offer.  This event is popular so pre-Booking is advised (but does not guarantee parking or Science shows and Theatre which are offered on a first come, first served basis).

Children's activities will include our ever popular Science Shows with Professor Nitrate, also do not forget to visit the armoury to see a unique collection of weapons covering examples from both World Wars.

This is a very popular weekend and people travel far and wide to enjoy this event, so recommend ordering tickets in advance to save time queuing on the day. Please see link below to purchase online advance tickets:

Please note this year there will be no Spitfire Fly Over Display. The flying restrictions imposed following the Shoreham accident has made a display impractical.
