Friday December 8th sees local band Take the Biscuit making great music at the Unicorn Ceilidh in St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock.
English Ceilidh Band Take the Biscuit combines exciting young duo Beth Gifford (Viola) and Matt Brookes (Accordion) with driving back line Rob Gifford (Drums) and Trevor Lines (Bass). The band plays lots of original material written by members of the band, together with traditional English tunes.
In their debut season Take the Biscuit played Red Fox Ceilidhs in Leicester to a packed house and sold out the prestigious Knees Up Cecil Sharp ceilidh in London on their first visit.
Calling the dances, teaching the moves and making sure everyone has a good time, will be Lisa Heywood. Originally from Bedfordshire, Lisa has grown up with folk music and dance, and is now one of the most enthusiastic, experienced and respected young callers on the ceilidh scene.
Providing the interval entertainment will be Unicorn Ceilidh favourites Tappalachian - a wonderful team of dancers performing Appalachian step dance with a great old-time band!
Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £10, Seniors over 65 - £9, Children under 18 - £6, Students / unwaged - £7. First 6 students before 8 p.m. - FREE! Excellent value for a live band and caller! There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.
All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. See www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for full details.
