April’s Unicorn Ceilidh at Baldock Town Hall welcomes the spring with popular Cambridgeshire band Fendragon and caller Alison Giles on Friday April 24th.
Dave, Gina, Anahata and Mary play fiddle, recorder, piano, concertina, cello and melodeon and have been involved in traditional dance and music around the Cambridgeshire area for some years. They play traditional English folk music, with some Irish, Scottish, French and American influences and have been described as having “the knack of lifting you up with their music... great to listen to as well." Alison Giles is a well-known caller on the Cambridgeshire dance scene and returns to Unicorn Ceilidhs to guide the audience through the dances and ensure a great evening for all.
The interval entertainment will be from Ampthill-based Redbornstoke Morris, who have performed at major folk festivals at Sidmouth, Chippenham, Warwick, Hastings, Whitby and Litchfield. Their repertoire of dances are all self-composed, as are many of the tunes used to accompany them. Always good value, Redbornstoke are old friends of Unicorn Ceilidhs and will also be making a very welcome return.
Doors open at 7:30 and the dancing starts at 8:00. There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and plenty of parking near the hall. Tickets are £10 for adults, with concessions for children, seniors and families – see www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for more details.
