The New season of Unicorn Ceilidhs kicks off on Friday September 25th
...at St Mary’s Church Hall in Baldock with a welcome return visit of the fabulous Diatonics. Their driving rhythms and great choice of tunes makes them one of the finest ceilidh bands in the country, and they are joined by caller Lisa Heywood, who has been performing at many of the major festivals this summer and has a wide variety of dances, many of which are her own compositions.
A ceilidh is an evening of high-energy dancing, similar to barn dancing or country dancing. The music is always live and loud and dancing is often fast and furious. The dances are always clearly explained and walked through before the music starts playing. If you've never done ceilidh dancing, this is a brilliant way to start because you really can pick it up as you go along. Wear some comfortable shoes or trainers, though – you'll need them!
There are lots of tables and chairs and real ale, wine and soft drinks bar. Singles and groups are welcome – if you haven’t got a partner there will be plenty of people to dance with! You don't need to book tickets; there's lots of room - just pay at the door.
The evening starts at 8:00 (doors open at 7:30) and admission is just £10 for adults, £6 for under-18s, £9 for over 65s, £7 for students and a family ticket (2 adults + 3 children) is available for £28.
Unicorn Ceilidhs are held on the last Friday of the month – September and November ceilidhs will be at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock SG7 5AD, and November’s will be at Baldock Town Hall. See www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for more details.
