The next Unicorn Ceilidh at Baldock Town Hall will be on Friday October 31st featuring top Manchester band Albireo with caller Lisa Heywood.
Since forming in 2001, Albireo have become firm favourites in the Greater Manchester area, with appearances at many dance clubs, ceilidh series and festivals in the North West and beyond. The band plays tunes mostly from England, Scotland, Ireland and America, but others come from further afield and there are some self-penned compositions as well.
Their tunes are played with gusto and whether they are fiddle driven foot stompers or self penned subtle waltzes they deliver really exciting, danceable music all night.Sheffield-based caller Lisa Heywood is rapidly making a name for herself on the English folk scene as a caller for ceilidhs. Originally from just down the road in Dunstable, Lisa has been a dancer all her life and loves sharing this experience to get others dancing!
Wicket Brood Border Morris side from Hertfordshire will provide the interval entertainment and there will be a licensed bar selling beer, wine and soft drinks.
A ceilidh (say kaylee) is like a barn dance, with mostly simple dances and great music. All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. Be as exuberant or as restrained as you want when you dance!
You don't need to book tickets; there's lots of room - just pay at the door. The evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes about
11.15 p.m. Adults £10, Seniors over 65 £9, Children under 18 £6, Students / unwaged £7. First 6 students before 8 p.m. FREE! Excellent value for a whole evening’s dancing to a live band and caller!
Unicorn Ceilidhs will be at Baldock Town Hall on the last Friday of each month – for more details go to www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk.
