Dance the night away!

The Unicorn Ceilidh on Friday 28th November at Baldock Arts and Heritage Centre (the old Town Hall), will feature the ever-popular Gekoes with caller Alan Simpson.
Geckoes are in the front rank of the bands on the English Ceilidh scene. The band was first formed in 1986 and, with one or two personnel changes along the way, has been playing for dances ever since. With their roots in Oxfordshire but with musical influences from all over the world, Geckoes are a favourite attraction at dance clubs such as Haddenham and Oxfolk, and have for many years been regular performers at major folk festivals including Sidmouth, Towersey, Broadstairs, Chippenham, and Whitby.
Alan Simpson celebrates forty years of calling for ceilidhs and barn dances this month – another old favourite at Unicorn Ceilidhs, Alan has worked with many of the top bands in the country and has a huge repertoire of dances to keep all the dancers happy!
The interval entertainment this month will be from Stevenage Sword, whose history goes back to 1973. They perform the rapper sword dances of the North-East of England and longsword dances from Yorkshire, in their own inimitable style.
A ceilidh (say kaylee) is like a barn dance, with mostly simple dances and great music. All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. Be as exuberant or as restrained as you want when you dance!
You don't need to book tickets; there's lots of room - just pay at the door. The evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes about
11.15 p.m. Adults £10, Seniors over 65 £9, Children under 18 £6, Students / unwaged £7. First 6 students before 8 p.m. FREE! Excellent value for a whole evening’s dancing to a live band and caller!
Unicorn Ceilidhs will be at Baldock Town Hall on the last Friday of each month – for more details go to www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk.
