Ceilidhs gallop into the New Year

Author: Unicorn Ceilidhs Published: 15th January 2018 12:38

Oxford Nags

The first Unicorn Ceilidh of 2018 will be held on Friday 9th February at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock, and will feature The Oxford Nags with caller Sheena Masson.
Four-piece band The Oxford Nags is based around Oxfordshire and a bit of Hampshire. They describe themselves as “playing stonking English tunes for stonking English dance”, and the line-up consists of some of the most experienced musicians playing for dance on the English Ceilidh scene.

Calling the dances will be a true Unicorn Ceilidhs favourite, Sheena Masson, whose knowledge of folk dance is legendary, and who always produces a range of dances for everyone to enjoy.

Interval entertainment will be from the very fine Rockhopper Morris, whose unusual “Raglan” style dances are hugely entertaining, but danced with great precision.

Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock SG7 5AE, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £10, Seniors over 65 - £9, Children under 18 - £6, Students / unwaged - £7. First 6 students before 8 p.m. - FREE! Excellent value for a live band and caller!  There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.

All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. See www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for full details.
