Popular funky wool show returns for fifth year!

Following the success of our previous four events, Waltham Abbey Wool Show is established as an annual event and is proud to be the first UK wool show of the year. The Crochet Chain and AboutMyArea EN9 community website have joined forces again to organise the fifth show on Sunday 21st January 2018 at Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel, Old Shire Lane, Waltham Abbey, EN9 3LX from 10am to 4pm.

The Waltham Abbey Wool Show will have exhibitors’ stands with luscious hand dyed yarns, beautiful handmade wool and felt items, unique knit and crochet kits, a wide selection of accessories from buttons to crochet hooks for sale, demonstrations of spinning, rag-rugging, weaving, knitting with beads and wire knitting. A selection of interesting craft workshops for visitors from beginner to intermediate level will be available to book in advance.

The Best Funky Hat, Bag, Glove and Neckwear competitions proved popular in previous years, the 2018 competition will be “Best Funky Footwear” (socks, slippers or leg warmers) and the organisers are encouraging people to bring along their handmade creations (no pre-registration needed - judging will be held at 12.30pm on the day). Also encourage attendees to bring along their latest knit or crochet project as well and enjoy a relaxing time creating in the company of others on the day. There will be plenty of seating available as the wool show takes over the whole hotel for the day!

This show is not just for those addicted to wool as it is for anyone who appreciates good quality hand-made items as there will be colourful array of unique hand crafted products looking for a new home.

The show will be opened by the fantastic knitwear designer known as Sockmatician (aka Nathan Taylor) at 10am who will also judge the competition at 12.30pm. Our chosen charity for the 2018 show is Knit for Peace, donations of any knitted or crocheted items or yarn will be gratefully received on the day.

Diana Bensted of The Crochet Chain: “We are pleased to hear we have the reputation as one of the friendliest shows with passionate exhibitors who love to share their expertise. We know there are modern, exciting, talented new designers and creators out there and we are delighted that WAWS gives us the opportunity to showcase and share the fabulous yarnie businesses we love with our visitors”.

Kate Towerzey, Site Editor of AboutMyArea community website and joint organiser of the wool show: “Cannot believe we are soon to host our fifth wool show again bringing together an inspiring mix of independent yarn hand dyers, hand-made garment designers, producers of craft tools and accessories, plus guild demonstrations and workshops combining to create a memorable and enjoyable day out putting Waltham Abbey in Essex on the map of yarn events”.

So remember to hold on to your Christmas money, come along and treat yourself to one of the workshops or enjoy a delicious Sunday Roast Carvery Lunch or Afternoon Tea!  Booking advised directly with the Marriott hotel on 01992 717170.  There will be free parking all day for show visitors.

Advance tickets are available to purchase now on-line via the Waltham Abbey Wool Show website at the reduced entry cost of £3.50, although tickets will be available to purchase on the day too at £5.00 each. Tickets are also available to purchase in advance from Waltham Abbey Tourist Information Centre on Highbridge Street.
