The Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Manchester, is a friendly group of people interested in the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. We are an appreciation Society and don't perform. Instead, we invite speakers and singers to attend our meetings and entertain, inform and educate us on the subject of Gilbert & Sullivan, or anything connected with them. Previous guest speakers and recitalists have included professional and amateur singers, choirs, orchestral conductors, music professors - anyone with an interest in or knowledge of the world of G&S.
We meet once a month from October to May in the Unitarian Chapel, Cross Street, Manchester, M2 1NL, a bright, modern building in the centre of the city. We were established in 1932 and have met every year since then. Entry to nearly all of our meetings is free; a charge is only made when we have a professional performer visit as they require a fee. Our November meeting takes place on Tuesday 5th at 19:15, when ex-D'Oyly Carte Opera Company soprano Sandra Dugdale will entertain and enlighten us with a talk on producing G&S. Sandra is currently a Tutor in Vocal Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and will be accompanied by two of her students who will sing musical examples.
