Sponsored by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence and the British Army, we welcome girls and boys aged 12 years (6 months) - 18 years, the purpose - built detachment in Neston provides a base for a wide variety of exciting activites and skills training.

The aims of the ACF are to -

  • Provide progressive cadet training, often of a challenging and exciting nature, to foster confidence, self reliance, initiatve, loyalty and a sense of service to other people;
  • Encourage the development of personal powers of practical leadership and the ability to work succesfully as a member of a team;
  • Stimulate an interest in the Army, its achievements, skills and values;
  • Advise and prepare those considering a career in the services or with the Reserve Forces;
  • And there's one more important thing - it's a lot of fun!
Where, when and what?

The detachment meets every Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9.30pm. Cadets can enjoy:

  • Fieldcraft (Living in the field on camps, completing night patrols and doing mock ambushes)

Naturally shooting and fieldcraft are popular amongst the cadets, and at Neston we have our own air rifle range, and access to a large field with wooded land, to put your learnt skills to the test! The detachment also prides itself in looking smart with drill and turnout for rememberance parades.

Neston's Detachment particularly benefits from its location, which allows for frequent camps and training excursions to such places as Altcar, Fox Barracks (Chester), and a 2 week summer annual camps, further afield to places such as Scotland, Yorkshire & Wales.
