Family time together
National Family Week commissioned a survey of 3,000 parents and 1,000 children on a range of family issues and perceptions of family life today. Here are some examples of the results so far:
Families spend on average 49 minutes a day together, barely enough to share a meal
The main barrier to spending time together is money followed by time and lack of fun things to do
Over a third of children wish they could spend more time with their dad, above friends, siblings, Mum, grandparents, extended family and an option to include both
parents
73% of kids think all children need a mother and a father in their life while half parents surveyed agree that parents need both under the same roof
Only 16% of parents list engaging in physical activity in their top three best examples of spending quality time together making it less popular than watching
television.
52% of parents think marriage is still relevant in modern day society, as do 55% of
kids.
Family is the number one priority for parents (76%) and for kids (60%) above money, friends, popularity, health, religion, etc.
