Slimmers from Gartholwg slimming world group are losing pounds in hope of winning £1000 for Garth Olwg care home

Slimmers from Church village are hoping they could be on their way to winning £1,000 for Garth Olwg care home after losing an incredible 36 st 5 lbs in nine weeks.
The 45 super slimmers from the Garth Olwg lifelong learning Slimming World group are taking part in the club's 12-week ‘Let's Beat It Together' Community Weight Loss Challenge, a UK-wide challenge to encourage local communities to adopt healthier lifestyles and lose weight together.
The challenge will end on May 24, after which the Slimming World group with the highest average weight loss per member will receive a £1,000 prize to donate to their chosen community project or charity of their choice. Now the Garth Olwg lifelong learning Slimming World group is hoping that their inspiring weight losses could put them in the running for the top prize.
Manal, Slimming World Consultant for the group, says: "The Let's Beat It Together Challenge has been amazing! It's been a real motivator in the group and we've had incredible weight losses. Everyone has stepped up to the challenge because we really want to win it for Garth Olwg care home and, even more importantly, we want to help our community to a healthier future.
"The excitement of Let's Beat It Together is spreading through the community too as we have had many new members join our group to take part in the Challenge. The new members can't believe they're losing weight while still enjoying their favourite meals. Cooked the Slimming World way, even fish & chips, roast dinners or chocolate desserts can be healthy. A big part of coming to our group is to share healthy recipes and ideas."
Slimming World's Let's Beat It Together campaign was launched after the company's national survey revealed that more and more people in every single region of the UK are overweight, putting individuals and families at risk of a range of health conditions including heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
Manal continues: "Lots of people are coming to Slimming World for help in losing weight for health reasons, as much as to improve their appearance, confidence and self esteem. Losing weight doesn't just make you healthier, it makes you feel better about yourself too. At Slimming World we understand the psychological part of being overweight as well as the physical. As Consultants we've all experienced being overweight ourselves. All our groups promise a warm and friendly environment full of understanding and compassion. By pulling together and sharing ideas, feelings and practical solutions, our members give each other the confidence to make healthy changes for life and support each other to overcome any challenges they might face along their journey.
