BACH MASS IN B MINOR
St Peter's Singers and Chamber Orchestra, based at Leeds Parish Church, travel to Halifax Minster on the evening of Saturday 3 March 2012 for a rare performance of Bach's choral masterpiece at 7.00 pm.
The soloists are Kristina James, Anita Wiecelewski, Paul Dutton and Quentin Brown. The orchestra is led by Mary Huby; the organist is David Houlder and the harpsichord continuo is provided by Alan Horsey. The conductor is Dr Simon Lindley.
St Peter's Singers have become especially well-known for their performance of this wonderful work since the group's first presentation of it in 1985, the special Bach Tercentenary Year, since when the work has been sung and played many times - notably in Leeds Town Hall in 1991 as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the consecration of Leeds Parish Church. Leeds associations with the piece extend back to the 1886 Leeds Musical Festival when Sir Arthur Sullivan conducted what was probably the first complete performance of the work in England; it is his edition that is still in regular use today.
