New playing field and play area for Rothersthorpe
A residents’ group in Rothersthorpe has been granted planning permission for a new playing field and play area.
During South Northamptonshire Council’s Planning Committee meeting on Thursday, 2 August permission was granted for the change of use of land bordered by Banbury Lane and Church Lane from agricultural to community use.
The Rothersthorpe Community Space Project (RCSP) wants the site to become a place for ball games and a children’s play area.
Cllr Fiona Baker, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said: “Development in the countryside is carefully controlled, but planning policy does allow small scale recreation or community facilities to be built outside the village confines if they meet local requirements.
“There were some objections, but the RCSP showed there was widespread support for the proposals and members of the planning committee determined that on balance they will be a benefit to the community as a whole.”
Objections included the size of the development and the loss of view and privacy for neighbouring properties.
The RCSP submitted their application with the results of a June 2015 questionnaire from which 135 replies were received from 152 households in the village.
Of the replies, 79 per cent were in support, eight per cent were against and 13 per cent offered no response.
A resident who has lived in the village for 50 years wrote in support of the planning application and said: “When our children were small we had to take them to nearby villages to use their swings and slides, so it is about time we had something of our own.”
