The future of the only public gallery in South Northamptonshire is more secure following a £28,000 New Homes Bonus grant from South Northamptonshire Council (SNC).

The council has been supporting the Heseltine Gallery at Chenderit School in Middleton Cheney since it opened in 2003.

On Saturday, 9 March 2019, SNC Chairman, Cllr Richard Dallyn announced the funding as he spoke at a launch event for the  Friends of Heseltine Gallery’s (FOHG) Big Picture fund-raising exhibition and auction which features work donated by 47 local and national artists.

Cllr Dallyn said: “This marks the beginning of an exciting phase in the gallery’s development.

“As our only public gallery in the district and recognised as a very important asset for the school by Ofsted, I can see that it is valued by artists and public alike and is well supported by local businesses.

“This mix of enthusiastic volunteers with professional knowledge, talented artists, education, grant aid and commercial support bodes well for the future success of the Heseltine gallery.”

The grant will pay for a project manager who will provide FOHG volunteers with professional support, develop a new website and build a long-term future for the gallery as a community art hub.

New Homes Bonus is money paid by developers to mitigate the impact of their development and is used to fund SNC Community Grants which are available to organisations and individuals located in, or associated with the district.

A wide range of projects and activities may be eligible for assistance including capital projects (buildings and infrastructure) as well as smaller projects such as supporting the purchase of needed equipment or the delivery of local schemes.
