On their very first outing as new club Badby & Farthingstone CC, the visitors, beat Spencer Bruerne CC in a friendly on a cold, overcast Sunday last weekend by seven wickets.
The home side batted first and after promising a much larger total had to be content with 144, still a decent enough total to defend given the strength of their bowling attack. Opener Josh Muscott-Brown top scored with 27, No 3 Stead a valuable 20 and Fox made 23 very useful runs near the bottom of the order before he was last man out in the 26th over.
B&FCC openers Paul Picton and Chris Pratska had to survive a torrid first few overs with the ball beating the bat on several occasions before gaining control with a series of powerful blows.
The home side saw the visitors put on 50 at around six runs an over before both had to retire having scored 25 not out. The foundation having been laid, Kieran Bennett (another retiree), Jordan Shingler (20) and Colin Scott (13 not out) proceeded to keep up the pace, with the latter hitting the winning runs with ten overs to spare.
Many thanks to Spencer Bruerne for their hospitality, including an excellent post match bbq.
B&FCC’s next match is at Eydon this Sunday (May 12 2019, 2.30pm start)
