Great Weston 5 returns

It was a pleasure to welcome runners from Towcester, Brackley and the surrounding area to join us in Weston on Monday 6th May 2019 to take part in the Great Weston 5, a race run on a multi-terrain route, through the Northamptonshire countryside.
Up to and including 2014 the race had been run every year and was a staple on the running calendar, even achieving a place in the top 100 list of races in the UK.
Unfortunately, circumstances meant that it hadn’t been run for five years, and so we were thrilled that, even after a break, we managed to attract over 100 runners, some of whom came from as far afield as Buckingham, Milton Keynes, Scotland and even Belgium!
The participants included a combination of individuals and club runners for whom the race has historically been one of their Grand Prix fixtures.
Thankfully, the weather was kind, providing the perfect conditions, not only for running 5 miles over road and farm tracks, but also for the finishers and their families to enjoy some post-race entertainment at the Weston & Lois Weedon May Day fair.
Our 2019 Great Weston 5 winner managed a time of 28.12; an excellent attempt at the record of 26.04 set in 2005.
We have received some very encouraging feedback from participants, most of which was in praise of our great team of volunteers who marshalled the route and the race wonderfully.
The most common comment from everyone was “we’re so glad the race is back”… suppose that means we have to do it again next year!
