Digital Northampton - a pioneering project to develop, connect and promote Northamptonshire’s digital industries has scooped a national award.

Northamptonshire County Council employee Richard Beards – who helped found the initiative – received the Intrapreneur of the Year award at the Celebrating Enterprise Awards 2019, held at The House of Lords.

Digital Northampton is a collaboration between the University of Northampton, Northamptonshire County Council and local digital businesses.

Cllr Matt Golby, county council leader, said: “I’d like to congratulate Richard on this tremendous success which recognises the fantastic work the Digital Northampton project has done so far.

“There’s no doubt that the digital revolution is bringing sweeping changes across the world and what we now need to do is look at how these can be of benefit to the people of Northamptonshire.

“I welcome the Digital Northampton project as it recognises and unites the digital talent that we have in the town and around and builds on that to see how it can be of benefit to everyone.

“Not only are there advantages to businesses in the county through using emerging technology there are clearly massive benefits to be had to organisations which provide services to the public.”

The annual awards, hosted by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) and the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI), brings together representatives from small businesses, further education, higher education, business organisations, the banking sector and government to celebrate those individuals that are making a difference to the small business landscape through enterprise skills development, mentoring and championing.

Key figures from the small business, enterprise and skills sector in the UK gathered at the House of Lords on Thursday, October 3 to celebrate the very best in enterprise learning and skills.

Digital Northampton has so far united creative talent via knowledge-sharing events, social media and a purpose-built website, and is now moving forward to promote more widely the skills available on our doorstep.
