Lest we forget

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Verse 4, For The Fallen, 1914, Laurence Binyon

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month and in the case of this year in 2019 there will be a hush as we hold our two minutes silence.

101years since the end of the first world war.

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The Two Minute Silence is observed on Armistice Day, the day which marks the end of the First World War.

The Royal British Legion has always supported the traditional Remembrance Sunday services and the customary Two Minute Silence on that day. As the national custodian of Remembrance, the Legion also believes that when 11 November (Armistice Day) falls on days other than Sundays - on working days - Remembrance should be brought into the everyday life of the nation on those days as well.

The revival of support for observance of this demonstrates that, despite the passing of the years and the declining number of veterans, the nation still feels strongly about Remembrance.

Remembrance transcends all boundaries. The Legion seeks a small yet important individual and collective act, a rare moment when the nation can stand together and reflect on the price of freedom. That price is still being paid.

More than 12,000 British Servicemen and women have been killed or injured on active service since 1945.

Remembrance Sunday is the Centenary of the Armistice declared between the warring powers which brought an end to the Great War of 1914 – 18.

To mark this event a parade has been organised by the local British Legion between the car park of The Bull on Brackley Road and the Town War Memorial in Brackley Road Cemetery.

The parade will start at approximately 12:15pm and reach the War Memorial at approximately 12:30pm.

To allow this parade to take place, Northamptonshire County Council have given the British Legion approval for Brackley Road to be closed and traffic to be diverted from a little while before the parade starts until just a little while after it finishes.
