Change starts with us – that’s the theme of national Anti-Bullying Week (11 to 15 November 2019).
The goal of this year’s campaign is to inform schools and settings, children and young people plus parents and carers that it takes a collective responsibility to stop bullying.
Anti-Bullying Week is organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance who are working with Northamptonshire County Council through the All Together Programme which is funded by the Department for Education and offers schools specialised training and resources to achieve anti-bullying school status. Schools are awarded bronze, silver or gold accreditations which will recognise their efforts to prevent and respond to bullying.
29 Northamptonshire schools have received the training already and a further 40 will be trained during November.
E-safety and wellbeing officer at Northamptonshire County Council Simon Aston said: “However the bullying takes place, whether it is verbal or physical, online or in person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life which continues as they grow into adults.
“It’s good to see that so many schools have signed up to the latest training and are on their way to becoming All Together Schools. Schools who have completed this scheme have already reduced bullying by 79% and recorded significant increases in pupil wellbeing.”
This year’s Anti-Bullying Week also include Odd Socks Day on 12th November 2019 which encourages people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality, and raise awareness of bullying.
