People are being asked to speak and ask questions about Northamptonshire County Council’s draft budget at a series of scrutiny sessions over the next few weeks.

The Council’s Overview & Scrutiny Committee will be examining and scrutinising the draft budget proposals over the next few weeks.

The committee will meet at 10am on Wednesday, November 27 2019 to carry out an initial scrutiny of the draft 2020/2021 budget.

Members of the public are able to attend to highlight any aspects of the draft budget that they think councillors should look at during the Budget Scrutiny Review.

Member of the public will be given up to three minutes to speak at the discretion of the committee chairman and anyone who wishes to speak should register by 12 noon on November 25.

This will be followed by further working group-style meetings to scrutinise specific proposals from different areas of the budget.

These meetings will include a section at the start of the agenda when members of the public and representatives of community groups are able to attend to provide comments and information. The times of these working group meetings are:

  • Monday, December 2, 9.30am, Room 15 at County Hall: Focusing on Children First Northamptonshire budget proposals
  • Tuesday, December 3, 9.30am, Room 15 at County Hall: Focusing on Northamptonshire Adult Social Services budget proposals
  • Friday, December 6, 9.30am, Room 15 at County Hall: Focusing on Corporate Services budget proposals
  • Tuesday, December 10, 1.30pm, Room 15 at County Hall: Focusing on Place Services budget proposals

Members of the public wishing to speak at any of these working group meetings must register up to 24 hours beforehand.

The usual public speaking protocol would apply in that it would need to be a question related to the area of the draft budget due to be considered. Members of the public will be given up to three minutes to speak at the discretion of the committee chairman.

Anyone who wishes to speak at any of the sessions should contact Democraticservices@northamptonshire.gov.uk to register.
