The recent 135th Blakesley Show and Gymkhana was a huge success. It gives our local farming community and the companies that support them an opportunity to demonstrate how important agriculture is in our national life. The show has amazingly been in existence since the late 19th Century and hosts a huge array of equestrian and livestock events and trade exhibitors.
Many Abthorpe people, particularly members of the farming and equestrian communities were present. Some were exhibiting their cattle and sheep. Others were judges, whilst some had a keen interest in the events in the equestrian show ring.
Peter Cole who farms some land in Abthorpe, proudly watched as two of his grandchildren showed sheep that they had prepared for examination by a knowledgeable judge. The judge in question was Barbara Smith who is well known in our village. Abthorpe farmer Elizabeth Haycock was pictured trying out a new four-wheel-drive all terrain vehicle very suitable for getting round her farm.
The Blakesley Show really is a wonderful traditional historic rural event. Long may it thrive.
