Towcestrians RFC 27 - 22 Northampton Old Scouts

Towcestrians played their first Friday night League match under the lights at Greens Norton Road against local rivals Northampton Old Scouts and nearly came unstuck in a game in which the visitors created opportunities but Tows took theirs for a bonus point win

The match started poorly for Tows with Scouts up for the game and quickly going in for an unconverted try and then knocking over a penalty to leave the large Tows support quiet, it took some good phase play and then a cool finish from Callum Jones, his show and go against the stretched defence easily the highlight of the opening 20 minutes from Tows, both kickers failing to take chances and the half ended 5 - 8 to Scouts who deserved to be in front

The start of the second half was a role reversal with Tows holding the upper hand, Ben Roe kicking a penalty and then stepping through the defence shortly afterwards to score a try under the posts, which he converted. Gus Hopewell then made a break and fed James Falvey to score in the corner to extend the Tows lead to 20 - 8 and give some much needed breathing room, Scouts quickly came back, shaping to kick a penalty to the corner and instead running it, with Tows napping a short chip ahead was gathered by Scouts to go over, with their tails up Scouts soon scored again, poor tackling from Tows allowed a breakaway try and the visitors led 20 - 22 with nine minutes to go.

With a kickable penalty missed by Scouts it was Tows who took their chance, Ben Roe going in for his second try, again converted, as time ran out for a narrow win, a great atmosphere and an entertaining match with Scouts unlucky to only get a losing bonus point, more Friday night League Rugby at the Tows is scheduled for 2 weeks time against Old Northamptonians, this week Tows travel away to Oadby Wyggestonians, at a more traditional 3pm Saturday Kick Off.
