Silverstoneshire On The Cards As New Unitary Authority

Author: April Fool-Hardy Published: 1st April 2018 04:36

SNC To Blaze Ahead And Become Unitary Authority - Silverstoneshire!SNC To Blaze Ahead And Become Unitary Authority - Silverstoneshire!
After months of speculation together with the Government sending in an inspector to Northamptonshire County Council with the specific task of  reviewing how the council had been run, the last few weeks have seen… the Leader stand down, an interim cabinet appointed, all the Northamptonshire MPs calling for two unitary authorities for Northamptonshire - presumably a northern and southern to take over from all the Borough and District Councils and now commissioners installed to oversee the running of the County Council.

AboutMyArea/NN12 can disclose that South Northants District Council (SNC) is not going to just sit back and watch as all their efforts to put the residents first by effective joint working with Cherwell District Council are simply cast away at the stroke a pen in London.

The Secretary of State Mr Sajit Javid  is considering proposals from Northamptonshire County Council inspector Max Caller to break the county up into two unitaries, further one unitary covering the county is “not an option” according to a letter to Northamptonshire’s district and borough Councils from the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government’s head of the governance reform and democracy unit Paul Rowsell.

However, proposals for “a unitary authority for an area which is part of a county and one or more adjoining districts in an adjacent county” will be considered. Apparently a population of between 300,000 and 700,000 needs to be considered - perhaps the head count can take place during the British Grand Prix when some 140,000 extra people are resident in the county.

Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 a spokesman close to the leadership of SNC early on Sunday morning (1st April 2018) has intimated that South Northants Council, Cherwell District Council (who are based in Oxfordshire) and Buckingham from Aylesbury Vale District Council are going to propose to The Secretary of State Javid that a new Unitary Authority be set up on the boundaries of South Northants, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and that this new area will be called and promoted as Silverstoneshire.

Silverstone is a recognised name in the high performance engineering and motorsport world and is world renown for staging the British Grand Prix and would now be at the centre of this new authority.

The new authority will be taking on all the responsibilities formally under the remit of Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire County Councils, including, schools, social care, roads, libraries, rights of way etc.

Silverstone already is an Enterprise zone based around Silverstone Park. The area between the two motorways M40 and M1 has terrific access to London and the Midlands through road networks.

AboutMyArea/NN12 understands that by striking while the iron is hot Silverstoneshire can blaze ahead and act in the best interests of its residents by providing first class facilities and services for all.

Our council is great as it is and it would be not be readily accepted by our communities NCC have not been able to manage the running of the council for a long time due to the arrogance of the leaders we should all be allowed to vote on such move to a unitary council
