Safer Internet Day on 5 February 2019 looks at new research into young people’s use of technology and highlights initiatives to improve online safety.

Celebrated in over 130 countries, Safer Internet Day will see Northamptonshire County Council join hundreds of organisations right across the UK and globally to play their part in helping to create a better internet.

The county council is hosting a series of roadshow events where social workers, health professional, teachers and policymakers can learn how to keep children safe online.

A dedicated session for parents on ways to encourage the responsible and positive use of digital technology for children will take place at Kingsthorpe College, Northampton.

The authority will also be part of a nationwide day of action involving the #SaferInternetDay2019 social media campaign and youth events where young people will have the opportunity to have their say about the issue of consent online.

Simon Aston, Online Safety Officer for Northamptonshire County Council said: “Safer Internet Day is an opportunity for everyone across the UK and globally to come together for a better internet.

“Whether you are a young person, parent, carer, school or organisation, we can all take positive actions to help make the internet a great and safe place.

“Hundreds of schools and organisations have pledged their support for Safer Internet Day and it is this collaboration that helps ensure Safer Internet Day has such a positive impact, reaching 45% of UK children in 2018 and growing year on year.”
