Emily and Stuart Anderson wave as their 4.25 litre Bentley Derby (1937) passes the end of Abthorpe’s Main Street.
A good sprinkling of villagers, virtually all armed with their cameras, lined the route on Saturday taken by the 104 pre-1986 cars participating in Hero Events’ September Challenge. The Challenge was aimed at novice and intermediate crews who began their 140 miles drive at Bicester. Their route took them through some of the most scenic parts of Northamptonshire.
AS predicted the first cars arrived in Abthorpe at 12:30 to be followed by a selection of vehicles that had been kept in pristine condition by their proud owners. There were Austins and Porches, Triumphs and Renaults, Bentleys and SAABs, Alvis and Alfa Romeos, Fraser Nash and Volvos, Lotus and lots of other historic marques besides. They were a proud display of Europe’s motoring heritage. Japanese, Korean and other non-European makes were noticeable by their absence.
One of the earliest arrivals in Abthorpe was the wonderful 4.25 litre Bentley Derby dating from 1937, driven by proud owners Emily and Stuart Anderson who waved as they passed the top end of our Main Street. It really was a delightful occasion much enjoyed by the locals. Thank you Hero Events for organising such an impressive Challenge.
