An imaginative theatrical show – The Time Traveller - featuring Dr Who style special visual effects, magical costumes, fantastic scenery and set backwards and forwards in time with dinosaurs and aliens, was performed and filmed by young people aged 8 to 16 for family and friends at Paulerspury Village Hall at the weekend.

One of South Northamptonshire Council’s popular SPLAT activities this summer, The Time Traveller is the culmination of a week of workshops which saw the youngsters train in areas such as script devising, acting, directing, set building, costuming, lighting, sound recording and filming, under the direction of Looking Glass Theatre from Northampton.

Rosie Herring, Cabinet member for Community Wellbeing, said: “Drama workshops are a great way for young people to learn how to be part of a team, as well as developing their creative skills and confidence. Children from various villages have come together with existing young members of Paulerspury’s thriving amateur dramatic group and worked hard to achieve a remarkable result, which they will remember for many years. The experience is a very positive factor in community wellbeing, for the young people and their families who came to support them at the end of the project.”

Paulerspury Players Membership Secretary Alison Herbert, who assisted with the production of The Time Traveller and played the part of a mad scientist in the show, added: “It has been brilliant fun and all the kids have contributed something special. I’m so pleased that following the workshops we now have some new members who are keen to take part in our next pantomime. They are all really good.”
