There is another chance to take up a unique form or exercise in South Northants that is suitable for a wide range of people.

Nordic Walking was originally a training regime for cross-country skiers but is now used by people of all ages and abilities to stay active.

South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) is giving people across the district the chance to learn how to take part in this low impact, whole body exercise, during a Learn to Nordic Walk Course which starts this weekend.

Cllr Karen Cooper, SNC’s portfolio holder for community engagement and wellbeing said: “There’s a real knack to being able to use the Nordic Walking poles correctly.  Once you’ve got it mastered they help take the weight off your knees and lower body joints, make you feel lighter and help you training harder."

Delivered by a fully qualified instructor, the course is suitable for anyone who wants to try something new and is specifically aimed at the complete beginner to the Nordic Walking technique.

On completion of the course participants will be issued with a Nordic Walking UK Freedom Passport, which allows access to walks and events with participating instructors all over the UK.

The four-week Learn to Nordic Walk course cost £30, starts Saturday, 5 November 2016 and takes places between 9:45am – 10:45am.

To book a place on the course email Naomi.wootton@cherwellandsouthnorthants.gov.uk or call 01327 322174.

Closer to home, those who know how to Nordic Walk can join one of the regular walks hosted by community groups in Brackley, Towcester and Nether Heyford.
