The Radstone Primary School, based in Poppyfields Way, Brackley, was officially opened by HM Lord Lieutenant for Northamptonshire, David Laing, on Tuesday 11 September 2018.

Accompanied by a number of dignitaries, including the High Sheriff of Northamptonshire, Brackley Town Mayor, the Chairmen of Northamptonshire and South Northamptonshire Councils and other community representatives, the afternoon’s celebrations also included parents of the children who attend The Radstone, as well as staff and pupils from Nicholas Hawksmoor and Bracken Leas, the other schools within the Trust.

Tours took place of the school facilities and grounds which showcased activities involving Y6 children from the Trust schools, signifying their commitment to high quality provision in the Arts and Sports.

HM Lord Lieutenant for Northamptonshire, David Laing, made a welcoming speech. The afternoon was rounded off with a beautiful performance from the school’s children – quite an achievement considering they had only been together for just five days!

Executive Principal for The Hawksmoor Learning Trust, Ms Andrea Curtis, said she was proud to be officially opening The Radstone for the local community, “It has been an honour to officially open the school today alongside so many people who support and truly believe in what we aim to create - a happy and vibrant school where doing the best we can for all our children in our care is at the heart of everything we do. We will be ‘Building Excellence’ in all aspects of our provision, to deliver the highest educational standards and provide a fantastic resource within the new housing development for the community it serves. We have the highest aspirations for every child and place great value upon celebrating both individual achievement and personal development as children learn and grow with us.”

The new school, which welcomed its first pupils on Wednesday 5 September, will have a proposed full capacity of over 400 pupils. It is uniquely attractive, combining both the traditional and the modern to provide state of the art facilities. It has extensive grounds, including three junior-sized football pitches and a multi-use games area, as well as a music room, art room and library. A new Day Care Nursery has also been set up within the school building, providing much needed additional Nursery capacity in Brackley.

The new school is part of the Hawksmoor Learning Trust which was officially formed in December 2016, after Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School, in Towcester, was approved as a sponsor school by the Department for Education in 2015. The Trust also includes Bracken Leas Primary School, its nearest neighbour in Brackley, which joined in April 2017.
