Andrea Leadsom, Member of Parliament for South Northamptonshire, has today officially launched the start of construction on the new Brackley Medical Centre.

Along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Brackley, Cllr Mark Morrell and Cllr Anthony Bagot-Webb, and representatives from the local GP surgeries including the GP Locality Chair Dr Philip Stevens, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire NHS Healthcare Foundation Trust Angela Hillery, and the developer of the project Chris Taylor of Dudley Taylor Pharmacies, Andrea was invited to tour the site of the new building, and to see first-hand the progress that is already being made.

The new Medical Centre will incorporate GP services alongside other primary and community care facilities, including an array of outpatient and pharmacy services. The building will also see the return of intermediate step-down care beds to South Northamptonshire which were lost when the old Brackley Cottage Hospital closed.

Andrea said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be here today to put the spade into the ground and celebrate the start of construction on this fantastic new facility for Brackley and the surrounding community.

“It has been a long journey in getting this building off the ground, and I pay tribute to the dedication of our local Brackley GPs and pharmacists for their huge commitment and determination in delivering on this project.

“Without the work of Dr Philip Stevens, our fantastic local GP Chair, and Angela Hillery who is the Chief Executive of the Northamptonshire NHS Healthcare Foundation Trust, we wouldn’t be here today with this rather excellent shiny spade to officially kick off construction.

“I look forward to coming back to the site later on in the year to cut the ribbon to open the new facility!”

Mark said:

“I am delighted to finally see the start of works for the long awaited new Medical Centre in Brackley, and I thank all parties involved in making this a viable and realistic project, on behalf of the people of Brackley.

“A lot of very hard work has been required by so many people to finally get to the stage of construction today.”

Philip said:

“Everyone at Brackley Medical Centre is delighted that this new medical facility is going ahead.

“We are excited about the opportunities it gives us to expand the range of services and care available to the people of South Northants.

“Thanks are due to many people for their help with the project over the years”

Angela said:

“I am really proud and privileged to be here today to support this initiative, working in partnership.

“This represents partnership in action, and is a real opportunity to develop the future integrated care that we want for the local community.”

We are very committed as an organisation to do that, and to develop the future NHS and the long-term plan as part of this development.

Chris said:

“The assistance I have been given by the Medical Centre, Andrea and Northamptonshire NHS Foundation Trust has been hugely important in getting the project going, and their individual unique support has really pushed events along at the right moments.”
