Viv was nominated by Gemma for the award, as she felt she truly deserved the recognition. She is an incredible inspiration who has a lot of patience, time and love and its down to her dedication that she had ITV come out to film her last week along with Gemma, her students and previous hero’s for a short nomination programme which will be aired on ITV Anglia the week commencing the 29th September 2019.
Viv Rhymes a local dance teacher and fundraiser, has been nominated for a Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the year award 2019.
Viv Rhymes first started out as a student at the Step by Step dance school. For the last 12 years however has been a very successful and passionate teacher. Viv teaches across the district at classes for children and adults of all ages and abilities, she will teach you the dance and share the passion of what dance can do for you.
Viv has truly inspired so many people, and more so over the last four years, when she teamed up with fellow dancer Gemma Dearsley.
Gemma is the founder of the non profit making registered charity called The Lighthouse Centre, This charity offers a complementary therapy unit offering holistic therapies for people with long term conditions or cancers in their own home. The centre is patient orientated with the patients’ needs at the centre of any therapy or treatment that is prescribed.
The Lighthouse Centre is run by nurses and health care staff who had a wealth of knowledge and experience, to ensure that the best treatment is identified and given.
Viv decided to team up with their passions to create the very first Strictly Charity events in Towcester and Brackley. These events are held yearly and with minimal rehearsal, her willing and kind hearted students from her classes during the week, are the professionals who are paired up with a Strictly Hero. These hero’s are to raise as much money as possible including selling as many tickets as they can to make their show as big and wonderful as possible. The Hero’s along with their Stepper will learn between two to four dances for a big spectacular show within five weeks!!!
Over the last four years Viv and Gemma together have raised over £40,000 for The Lighthouse Centre. Viv and her Steppers all do this for charity, they don’t get paid, they do this for the LOVE of dancing and raising the profile of such a worthy charity.
