On Monday October 7th 2019, Northamptonshire Libraries are launching a new challenge, “For the Love of Books” with the aim of encouraging the public to read, or listen to, 25 books in just under a year, by Wednesday September 30th 2020.
Launching during Libraries Week, “For the Love of Books”, the Library Plus Challenge, aimed at adults, hopes participants will:
- Discover new authors
- Rediscover their love of reading
- Share online what they have read
You can get involved and pledge online to take part in the challenge and be entered into a prize draw to win an iPad, donated by audio publisher Bolinda. You can also follow the Library Plus social media accounts to get reading inspiration, share your book reviews and take part in a series of mini-challenges which will be revealed throughout the year.
Deputy Leader of Northamptonshire County Council, Councillor Lizzy Bowen said:
“Reading is a fantastic way to unwind from the stresses of daily life, to be more mindful or to learn about new things. We hope that this programme will encourage people to share their reviews in the online communities and gain inspiration from others taking part in the challenge.”
Jo Hoyer, Universal Offers Programme Co-ordinator, from Northamptonshire Libraries said: "“We really hope that residents of Northamptonshire take up this challenge. Research shows that reading has important health benefits and reading for just 30 minutes a day can add two years to your life."
Visit your local Northamptonshire County Council Library to find out more. You can pick up a free bookmark or even buy a “For the Love of Books” book bag.
