The Great Weston Run on May Day Bank Holiday
The Great Weston Run took place under dry conditions, in bright sunlight and increasing warmth.
The Weston 5 was the brainchild of local 'athlete' Tom Pomeroy. Together, with other keen local runners/joggers/shufflers, a fun run was organised to coincide with the annual May Day Fair.
From just a handful of participants in 2000 (mainly under duress), the race now attracts up to 380 affiliated, non-affiliated and purely fun-runners today. The premise is one of- fun first, run second.
The Weston 5 has consistently been rated in the top 100 UK runs in Runners World
This years race was won by Matthew Clarke, 36 years old from Milton Keynes club in a time of 28 minutes and 18 seconds. Second was Paul Skipper of Mersey Tri, third local Silson Jogger Simon Woodward.
First over 40 years old finisher was Simon Markley of Thomas Cook Road Runners and first over 50 was Charles Chambers of Silson Joggers.
First female home, no change here, as usual local runner Nicki Nealon.
