Hanslope vs GNCC

The first weekend of the school holidays is always a challenge for team selection for Norton and this year was no different. So a motley crewe of 10 old and young, Norton past and future gathered at Hanslope, itself undergoing a rebirth with development to the ground underway.

The summer had changed somewhat with rain forecast and the wind exceptional, straight down the ground. Norton were put into bat by a team struggling in the Division and lacking in confidence.

A normal opening pair for Norton was about the only normal thing, the start typical, Bodily fast Baker slow. Bodily fell for 21 controversially given caught from one that might have bounced an Baker was joined by Neil, making his first appearance for 9 years!

Neil swept away the years and looked like he had never been away, he pushed on whilst Baker kept the other end up and the pair put on an excellent 70 before Neil was unluckily out (hobbling somewhat) for 46.

Baker supported the tail, which pretty much started immediately, until he fell with a couple of overs to go for 42 – an anchor role desperately needed which took Norton to a score of 140 all out.

The wind proved challenging for Norton's bowlers bowling with the wind no less difficult than bowling into it, the opening burst more of a damp squib with Hanslppe taking advantage the first 7 going for 40 runs.

Taylor (snr) coped a bit better with the wind bringing a bit of control and this caused the fall of Chilton (25) well caught by Baker at midon 61-1. Wyeth came in and set about anything wide before falling for a rapid 29 caught in the deep of Taylor jnr 111-2.

At the other end Iseton's mixture of obdurate dead bat and flicks to leg pushed the score on, Marsh (14) dropped twice eventually fell to Tustian (1-23) 130-3 and nearly there. Iseton (41 no) took Hanslope to the target with 10 overs to spare.

A decent effort from a depleted team but Norton second best.
