Two wins in the League but defeat in the National Village Cup

Saturday 11th May 2019 saw the first team at home to Thornborough and the second team away to previously unbeaten Braunston Paddox in the South Northants Cricket League.
First Team
Captain Sean Stokes invited the visitors to bat first and whilst Thornborough soon lost Ian McShaw, hard hitting by Cameron Davies (32) and Tom North (21) advanced the score to 38 before Davies was run out. Wickets started to fall with three going with the score on 62 before Ben North (25 not out) took the score to 94 before Thornborough were all out in the 28th over. The pick of the Silverstone bowers was Ryan Knight 3-27 well supported by Sean Gardiner 2-12, Sean Stokes 1-8, David Williams 1-9 and Josh Shakespeare 0-32. Catches were held by Jake Bates and Sean Stokes together with two Thornborough batsmen being run out.
8 overs were bowled before tea and Silverstone batsmen advanced the score to 18 - 0. After the break for tea and rain, Andrew Key (26) and Ollie Starbuck (37 not out), together with Ryan Knight (11 not out) saw Silverstone to victory in the 20th over for the loss of only one wicket.
Second Team
Braunston Paddox batted first and lost early wickets before V Sharma scored 54 and S Harnett 36. The hosts final wicket fell in the 33rd over to be all out for 126. Fergus Moran 3-15, Tony Wallinger 3-35, Jack Harris 2-14, Jenny Williams 1-29 and Kieran Judd 1-30 took the wickets for Silverstone supported by some magnificent catches by Wayne Gardner, Harris and Wallinger.
Silverstone needed a solid start but lost openers Gwyn Roberts (5) and Gardner (8) before David Hayle (37), Khush Sidhu (17) and Judd (10) brought the winning line into sight. Silverstone then collapsed and in the last over still needed four runs to win but with only one wicket remaining. Mik Broomhall was the hero hitting the boundary for Silverstone to secure victory with four balls remaining.
National Village Cup
On Sunday 12th, Silverstone were drawn away to Horton House in the National Village Cup. The hosts batted first and the openers Dan Robinson (27) and Paul Wolstenholme (65) took the score to 74 before Robinson was dismissed. There then followed a collapse with only Stephen Finch (15) reaching double figures with Horton House finishing on 158-9 from their 40 overs. Catches were held by Richard West, Joe Lindsay and Kieran Judd. Callum Jackson 3-30, Sach Patil 2-15, Sean Gardiner 2-21, Josh Shakepeare 2-27 took the wickets with support from Jenny Williams, Richard West and Kieran Judd. Silverstone did concede 40 extras that would come back to haunt them.
Silverstone's innings started aggressively with some big hitting by Ben Cooper and Joe Lindsay, who took the score to 51 in only the 7th over. Both were soon out bowled by Finch. Silverstone were well in front of the run rate but were losing wickets regularly. David Williams scored 25 but Silverstone were eventually dismissed for 125 in only the 25th over.
The dream of playing at Lords in September is over for another season
