Sibford vs GNCC

Norton's last visit to the picturesque Cotswold villages of Sibford was probably nine years ago when both sides were struggling somewhat, after several years of a youth policy and promotions Sibford are on the up. Stand in Norton Skipper Bowmer snr was unhappy to lose the toss but happy to be asked to bat on a  sunny day.

Openers Bodily and Baker started well against accurate, but not difficult bowling, although Bodily in particular played and missed more than usual. 37-0 off 10 overs Norton were well placed for a decent score.

A change of bowling for Sibford brought on spinner B Wood who struck in his second over having Bodily caught behind for 20, Norton 43-1. Baker quickly lost partners Allen (3) and Yuill (5) with Norton rocking at 59-3. Turner and Baker took it on until Baker fell for 37 somewhat constrained by cramp on a very hot day.

Turner tried to marshal the tail but fell himself for 26 leaving the score to subside a bit for an under par 122 with a couple of overs unused.

After an excellent tea, Norton's bowlers set about the task of defending an under par score with Bowmer's snr and Jnr both maintaining decent control, Sibford managing only 10 of the first 7 overs - this pushed Beamont-Dark (4) into an error, well caught by Baker off Bowmer jnr (1-16).

As with the first innings though the change of bowling brought a change of impetus, Yuill bowling  B Pratt (0) with his first ball. In tandem with Fitzgerald the two Norton change bowlers took over and Sibford lost wickets quickly, only Luker (17) and A Wood (11) managed double figures as the intensity of the Norton fielding overwhelmed and inexperienced Sibford side.

A final flurry of 10 from number 11 N Pratt saw Sibford up to 58 before Mawby was caught round the corner by Robinson off Yuill with the spinner finishing the game with 5-13. At the other end Fitzgerald had an excellent 4-22.

Despite an under par batting performance Norton's excellent bowling brought them a good win, and a decent points total after 5 games.
