David Hayle and Wesley Steenkamp discussing tactics in the victory over Preston Bissett
First team v Wroxton (away)
Wroxton batted first and started steadily before losing two quick wickets to David Williams. The hosts then consolidated their innings with the score reaching 60 before 4 wickets fell with no addition to the runs. 8 wickets had fallen for the addition of only 13 runs and the hosts on 64-9. The tail however wagged and added a valuable 30 runs to leave Wroxton 94 all out from 23.3 overs. Hostile bowling from Ryan Knight saw him finish with 5-23, well supported by Williams 2-21, Davis 0-27 and Sean Stokes 3-14. Catches were taken by Knight and Sach Patil (looking directly into the sun and with his sun glasses on the top of his head!) and a stumping by Ben Cooper.
Silverstone's innings started before tea and had advanced to 38-2 at the break. Wickets then started to fall regularly including four with the score only moving from 43 to 47. The score had advanced to 76 before the last three wickets fell without any further addition to the score. Knight (22), Joe Lindsay (16) and Ollie Starbuck (11) were the only Silverstone players to reach double figures.
Second team v Preston Bissett (home)
Preston Bissett batted first and were threatening to set a big target with opener Harin Sellahewa (74) and Ryan Watson (46) doing the damage. Silverstone recovered and the visitors could only reach 149-6 from their 40 overs. Richard West took 3-18, Tony Wallinger 2-18, Jenny Williams 1-20 with Fergus Moran (0-34), Jack Harris (0-19) and Wesley Steenkamp (0-34) the other bowlers.
In reply Silverstone lost two early wickets before West (15) and Steenkamp (23) consolidated the innings. Their dismissals saw David Hayle joined at the wicket by Harris and they added 47 runs before Hayle was dismissed for 68. This brought Andrew Benyon to the wicket and he (5 not out) and Harris (17 not out) saw Silverstone to victory in the 38th over.
