Another successful Saturday for Silverstone Cricket Club - 20th July 2019
Silverstone first team travelled to Castlethorpe in the Premier Division of the South Northants Cricket League. Silverstone won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. The score had advanced to 17 before a catch by Andrew Key from the bowling of David Williams saw the first wicket fall. A catch by wicketkeeper, Will Thomas from the bowling of Ollie Starbuck (48-2- was quickly followed by a smart run out by Jack Harris (48-3). Wickets then fell quickly with another catch by Thomas from Sean Gardiner (59-4), a catch by Ryan Knight from Gardiner (59-5), clean bowled by Key (62-6), a stumping by Thomas from Key (62-7), bowled by Gardiner (63-8), another Thomas catch from Gardiner (73-9). The last two Castlethorpe batsmen added a further 12 runs before Williams took the last week. Gardiner finished with 4-11, Williams 2-6, Key 2-14, Starbuck 1-9, well supported by Stokes 0-12, Knight 0-18 and Patil 0-13.
Silverstone's reply was led by Key and Starbuck and the score was 35 before Starbuck was bowled for 25. This brought Knight to the wicket and fierce hitting took the score to 78 before Key was caught for 19. Knight (32 not out) and Patil (5 not out) safely Silverstone to victory for the loss of only two wickets in the fifteenth over.
Silverstone batted first and welcomed the return of Andrew Payne to the team. He and Bruce Benyon opened innings and took the score to 61 before Benyon (16) was caught. Khush Sidhu (2) was also soon caught (75-2). Gwyn Roberts came to the crease. He and Payne saw the score to 141 before Payne (81) was caught. Roberts was caught for 29 with the score on 159, Darren Seal (0) and Harry Wallinger (6) before captain Kieran Judd (31 not out) and Hugh Williams (7 not out) took Silverstone to 205-6 from their 40 overs.
This was a challenging target for Thornborough but they started well and the score was 48 before Tony Wallinger bowled the opener. The score became 52-2 when Judd had the other opener LBW. Wickets then fell at regular intervals with two catches from Judd and reached 110-7 before the tail wagged. Thornborough were finally dismissed for 163 in the 38th over. Bowling for Silverstone - Fergus Moran 2-39, Tony Wallinger 1-35, Kieran Judd 2-30, Hugh Williams 1-12, Bruce Benyon 2-23 and Harry Wallinger 2-19.
These results see Silverstone consolidate their position at the top of the Premier Division and Division Four
