"I was pointed in the direction of the website, and my first thought was 'not another flash-in-the-pan idea that will be full of spam, irrelevent adverts etc'. How wrong I was!"

A group of villagers gathered at Grafton Regis churchyard on Saturday afternoon to plant 420 tree saplings provided by the Woodland Trust.

Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 Jean Glanville said, "We have started improving the conservation aspects of the churchyard and felt that a hedgerow would add to the resources for the flora and fauna.

"Learning of the Woodland Trust Community tree project we put in an application for a Community pack of hedging plants and our application was successful.

"The weather was sunny and dry and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. If you have a spare piece of ground in your village and can fit in some trees we recommend that you look at the Woodland Trust Community planting programme.

"Not only will you add an attractive area to your village, help the environment but all the villagers, young and old can get involved with the planting"
