Rain Forces Draw For Norton

Author: Chris Bowmer Published: 13th May 2018 11:32

Sadly the first effort for teas from the pub brought only rain and after waiting for a while it was clear this was set in for the night and the match was called off as a draw. GNCC vs Kings Sutton

The first home game of the season saw a dry week and although a bit under prepared a wicket looking flat and dry. Norton won the toss and elected to bat.

With an excess of opening batsmen this week Norton changed their approach with Yuill and Bodily this week opening up, this proved inspired as Yuill took over 2 for 12 runs and after saw an excellent innings from him, at no point looking strained he moved on to a rapid 50 in only 12 overs, helped a little by Sutton being short of one man - arriving 40 minutes late.

With Norton 75-0 the Sutton skipper hatched a plan to use his new fielder, placing him on the midwicket boundary he bowled round the wicket and tempted Yuill to a leg stump line which first up he managed to put into the hands of the new fielder for an excellent 52.

Norton went onto their shell then several overs going by without runs and pressure managed to bring a couple more wickets to Whitehouse, 3-37 not a bad return against the Yuill onslaught.

The return of a hungover Bristow saw the run rate increase and his 39 took Norton to a decent position with 10 overs to go. Impetus was maintained by the tail with Bowmer snr finding the bowling to his liking and managing the tail with 35 no and taking Norton to 189-8 at the end of their 40 overs.
