Dunchurch & Bilton Vs GNCC
Another hot sunny day for Norton and a visit to bottom of the table Dunchurch, with a team somewhat enhanced since last week. Put into bat on losing the toss seemed a reasonable option with a decent batting team.
A boundary in the first couple of overs saw the fast outfield in a good light but Bodily (1) got one early that climbed a bit from Hourigan. Yuill (9) dispatched a couple to the boundary but got one from Hourigan that kept low 27-2.
Baker (16) managed to get a fine edge on one from Wetherall that climbed and this brought in Millard and Honour who both looked completely in control.
Honour managed to chop one on that kept a bit low to go for 12 and Millard failed to pull one that got up and was caught at mid off, Norton by now on a downward spiral of uncertainty with the wicket and astonishment of the batting display.
The tail was determined but ineffective, Wallis managed to remain unbeaten on 8 but the remainder subsided as Norton fell all out for 81 – having used only 23 overs – Hourigan 4-31, Wetherall 3-41.
The Dunchurch innings began (and finished) before tea. An initial experiment with the bowling did not work and Dunchurch rushed to 31-0 off 5 overs.
The normal openers brought some control but this was never enough, Bowmer (snr) snared a couple but even a run out from a direct throw from Holton was not enough to see Norton with a chance, Dunchurch reaching the target and only their third win of the season in quick time.
